Introduction and its Background
Introduction
It is that in January 2013, the Philippines has 7.1% unemployment rate,
the highest in the countries from the Southeast Asian Nations and from which,
16.9% of which are college graduates ( Ericta, 2013). Rosero (2012) said that
“misfit graduates are one of the considered reasons why the country has high
unemployment and underemployment rate." The reason could be the course of the
graduates is not in demand in the present economy or the graduates are lack of
skills which is needed in a certain industry.
The Department of Education implemented the K-12 program in the
educational system. One of the objectives of Department of Education's K-12
program is to produce graduates who are equipped with knowledge and skills to
be productive citizens and an additional work force to promote economic
development in the even after high school (Ronda, 2013). Abarro (2016) stated
from his study that the choice of career tracks of the students play a great role in
the preparations of the schedule for the Senior High School. These four tracks-
academic, technical-vocational, sports, arts and design - are aimed at enhancing
students ability based on what he wants to do after graduation. Academic track is

for those students who automatically proceed in college. It has four strands -
Accountancy , Business and Management ( ABM ) , Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics ( STEM ), Humanities and Social Sciences
( HumSS ), and General Academic Strand ( GAS ). ABM strand is one of the
demand tracks the students choose nowadays. The ABM strand has nine
specializations. The specialization will prepare every student for a career in
management, accountancy, management consultancy and business management.
Base from the study of Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Vocational High School
( 2009-2010 ) there are factors affecting career preferences of students in
choosing a career in college includes childhood aspirations , family/relatives,
peer/friends, interest and specialization,
