General Description -
Why was it built? Is its location significant?
The Ise Jingu is built for Shinto`s to worship the sun goddess, Amataerasu Omikami. The
original shrine was built in 4 BC. The
location is significant because after a long period
of searching for the best place to put the shrine, Japanese Princess Yamatohine was given
a revelation that the sun goddess must be enshrined and worshipped for all time in Ise.
She then went out a built the shrine. She also started a long tradition of princesses being
the priestess of the shine. Many years later a different imperial leader started the tradition
of rebuilding the shine every 20 years. Additionally, the shrine was expanded into two
separate shrines, an inner and outer, to accommodate the number of people visiting each
year.

Ise Jingu
is rebuilt every 20 years to represent how nature is a cycle. The purpose of the
rebuilding is to r
