understand reproductive options because it will show us how social and economic
resources create advantages and disadvantages for parenthood based on income,
education, social class, race, gender, and gender identity. (pg.218)
2. Identify two questions identified by the authors that need examination as part of the
concept“the right to be a mother.” Share your opinion for the two you identify.
a. Is the right to be a mother primarily based on the biological ability to give birth?
No, because just because a person can give birth to a child does not mean that
they should and because someone can not give birth does not mean they wouldn't
be an excellent caregiver. Is everyone who gives birth to a woman? Everyone who
gives birth has to have uterus which belongs to the female sex but the person
giving birth may not identify as women when it comes down to their gender
which won't affect their ability to give birth as long as they reproductive organs
are one of a female
