• Experiment 304 :  Transverse Wave: Frequency of Vibration GUIDE QUESTION: 1. In the length measurement of vibrating string, the segment close to the stylus was not included. Why? In measuring the length, we do not include the stylus because the stylus is just the beginning of the wave and the clips that connect the stylus to the string vibrator affect the wave. The segment produce by the distance from the stylus is not the part of the vibration makes. It can be an error if we measure the length close to the stylus. 2. What effect does increasing the tension have on the number of segment formation? Justify your answer. When   we   increase   the   tension,   the   number   of   segments   will decrease. The segment decreases when the tension increases because the relationship of the wavelength to the tension is inversely proportional. This means is that waves will travel faster when the tension of the string is higher.  3. All   strings   on   the   acoustic   guitar   are   of   the   same   length.   What characteristic   difference   do   they   have   that   gives   them   different   pitch (different frequencies)? Discuss other procedures that can be done to change the frequency.
