-Definitions of grief, loss, bereavement and mourning
Grief: An experience that results from the loss of a significant person or object.
Mourning: The outward expression of grief.
Bereavement: The state of having suffered a loss and the experiences that follow the
death of a loved one.
-theoretical frameworks explaining grief and loss
FREUD- “Mourning and Melancholia”, Identification with the loved one, finding a
substitute person for the one we loved, seeing aspects of the deceased person within
ourselves, behavior, mood, resemblance, memories. Pathological Grief (melancholia
according to Freud) is where the person has a lack of self-esteem, is self-critical and
develops pathological melancholia.
