Introduction

The world is evolving and change is inevitable in any kind of organization. As the course module stipulates, contemporary management issues can be identified through change and the impact of change on any kind of organization. Most of the organizations in the present world are affected by issues from their internal or external environments. There are two main ways that an organization can react to the issues affecting them, either by bowing to the pressures or finding ways of managing, and becoming even better. This paper considers the case of Honda Motors, where the company had to close its Swindon car plant, leading to a massive loss of jobs at the tune of almost more than 7000. The plant had 3500 employees with an estimation of 3500 more working with their close partners who would be adversely affected by the closure of the plant. The aim of this paper is to identify the main drivers of change affecting Honda Motors, and their reaction to each driver, more so, on the case of the closure of Swindon plant.

The Hondo Motor Company Ltd. is one of the Japanese multinational conglomerate companies, manufacturing automobiles, motorcycles, and power equipment. For an effective analysis of the company, it is prudent to consider its financial standings. In 2018, the net income of the company was $10.12 billion, the total revenue was $148 billion while the operating income was about $8.03 billion. The financial standing of 2018 at Honda demonstrate a company with high financial rating. Therefore, the reason for closure of the Swindon plant might not be necessarily financial constraints. There is a possibility that the company reacted to the drivers of change, which might have played a major role in their closure decision.
