Many people believe that human memory works like a video recorder: the mind records events

Even questioning by a lawyer can alter the witness’s testimony because fragments of the
memory may unknowingly be combined with information provided by the questioner, leading to
inaccurate recall.
3. What proposals has The Innocence Project made to improving the accuracy of
eyewitness I.Ds
These proposals include videotaping the identification procedure so that juries can determine if
it was conducted properly, putting individuals in the lineup who resemble the witness’s
description of the perpetrator, informing the viewer of the lineup that the perpetrator may or may
not be in it, and ensuring that the person administering the lineup or other identification
procedure does not know who the suspect is.
4. Explain how the Salem Witch Trial of 1692 relates to the discussion of eyewitness
testimony today.
During the Salem witch trials the citizens of Salem, Massachusetts had little more to go off of
then spiritual guidance and hearsay. Though we now know what happened then was incorrect in
every way during those times that was all they had to go off of. Nowadays we still use
eyewitness testimonies though we tend to rarely use them and prefer to focus on harder
evidence though with such integrations as swearing honesty on the bible and it being listed as a
crime to say anything other than the truth while under oath has helped prevent lying and make
such evidence far more valuable.
