Results & Discussion

This experiment concentrates on determining air flow velocity using a multitude of measuring devices which include:

 Pitot tube with water manometer

 Hot wire anemometer

 Turbine anemometer

Air flow velocity analysis can be used to innovate the design of airplanes, drones, wind turbines, and other objects effected by wind flow. The lab begins with collecting raw data from all three devices mentioned above and can be seen in Table 1.

The Hot Wire anemometer is a digital device that is placed at the front of the wind tunnel to measure air flow velocity as the wind tunnel potential is increased in increments of 5%. On the

other hand, the turbine anemometer is located further back in the wind tunnel and past the pitot tube/water manometer.

The water manometer has multiple tubes but the focus for this experiment was tube #0 (Static), tube #11, and tube #12. Equation ____ can be found in the background and theory portion of this report and was used to determine the head difference found in Table 1. The head difference is the difference between water levels read from tube #11 and tube #12. Since the tubes are inclined 30 degrees, the true difference is the measured difference divided by 2. Therefore, the head difference is 1.0 mm.
