• The importance of RA 5527 to the medical technology practice is that the Act provides clear guidelines that helps recognize who can be registered as medical technologists and who are the ones giving the certificate. The act also helps in facilitating and implementing policies in practicing medical technology to ensure the promotion of health in general and the safety of the workers and patients.. Foreign reciprocity means that no foreigners shall be admitted to examination, or be given a certificate of registration or be entitled to any of the rights and privileges under this Act, unless the country or state which he is a subject or a citizen permits Filipino Medical Technologists to practice within its territorial limits on the same basis as the subjects or citizens of said country or state. So it means that the foreigners can be given a certificate of registration or be entitled to any of the rights and privileges if the country which he or she is a citizen to, allows Filipino Medical Technologist to practice in their territory. The members of the Council of Medical Technology are composed of the Secretary of Education or Director of Private Education as Chairman, the Director of the Bureau of Research and Laboratories of the Department of Health as Vice-Chairman, and the Chairman and two members of the Board of Medical Technology, the dean of the Institute of Hygiene of the University of the Philippines, a representative of the deans or heads of the private schools of medical technology, and the presidents of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists and the Philippine Society of Pathologists, as members. One of the impacts of RA 5527 on the medical technology professional practice is that the medical technology education in the Philippines has improved, enabling its graduates to become globally competitive and highly skilled.
