• Effects of Racism on the Education of Black Americans A Brief Summary of My Project Idea It has been more than six decades since the landmark decision in Brown V Board of Education was handed down. This case was motivated by the segregation in American schools based on racial grounds. Through this decision, the notion of “separate but equal” was dismantled, and the right to equal education opportunities guaranteed, the involved student’s race notwithstanding (Patterson, 2001). The positive impact brought about by this decision cannot be gainsaid. However, the deep-rooted history of discrimination in education in America was not entirely abolished. One of the most outrageous tragedies facing America has been the racially motivated mistreatment of African Americans. Today, black Americans continue facing discrimination pegged on racial grounds (Guinier, 2004). The Supreme Court decision mentioned above in Brown v Board of Education brought about a social revolution. Schools across America started to equally absorb both white and black students ensuring subjection to equal opportunities. As things stand today, there is a clear indication that the premise of this decision was short-lived because, arguably, things have reverted as most black American students continue to face discrimination based on racial grounds in their quest to obtain an education.
