• Amanda Kennedy Twelfth Grade English 057-201-003 Literary Response Journal Entries Lessons 9-12 Lesson 9: #1: In my opinion Mama strikes me as a round character, one very good scene that depicts this is the part where she talks of the plans that she and her husband had to move into a house in the park. The mood of the scene and the voice of mama give the impression of knowledge and wisdom and also it dabbles into one of the main themes of the play. Mama cannot be described to be the stereotypical elder for the Younger family. She is a very unique and selfless person, in addition to being wise and a source of strength for the family. She also gives a different sense of feeling that the other characters don’t give. I also think of her as a static character because her views on family issues (like Asagai and the death insurance money) don't change much; Walter is the main dynamic character. His change is evident in the final act of the play, when he refuses to not move because white people don't want him in their neighborhood. Mama's 'static,' continuous stance on the issue perhaps shapes Walter and makes him so dynamic in the story. In my opinion Walter seems to be a very dynamic character. I feel this fits him better than static because of the decision he made in the end of the book. When Walter was faced with one of the
