2.11 Practrice essay two.
Throughout history it has been prevalent that in human nature, people act in their own self-interest. In any given circumstance, we will always choose to help ourselves before helping any other person. Despite this instinct for self-preservation, it is inevitable that these decisions often have lasting consequences that will ultimately harm us rather than help us. In Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring, she highlights an important example of human short sidedness. She speaks on the devastating damage humans do to the environment to temporarily sustain some petty desires. Carson uses anecdotes, figurative language, and rhetorical questions to argue that as a species, humans act rashly and thoughtlessly, but then refuse to accept the consequences of these actions.
