COMPETITVE ADVANTAGE/STRATEGIC ANALYSIS 2
Abstract
In this day and age, businesses are going after extra mile that will enable them to surpass their
competitors and maximize profits. A business’ long term success rely upon its ability to use its
current features while at the same time, analyzing and investing in basically new features in an
active environment. This paper takes a look at the success of America Online (AOL), which
was once one of the most popular Internet Service Providers (IPS). The purpose of this paper is
to identify and describe what AOL’s competitive advantage was. This paper will determine why
and how AOL lost their competitive advantage. This paper will also disclose what could have
been done to prevent AOL’s loss of competitive advantage. A detailed description of competitive
advantage and its purpose will be provided as a basis for obtaining a better understanding of this
paper. An explanation of sustainable competitive advantage will also be provided as a basis for
understanding its importance.
