Role of Police Officer Physical Fitness and Wellness
Police officers are required to be physically fit. Their work in law enforcement is an
enriching career, but it is also a very demanding profession in physical fitness and wellbeing.
The law enforcement officers respond to any emergencies; therefore, they are required to
maintain the highest level of physical fitness in all police functions. The police officer's physical
fitness is responsible for giving occupational tasks to the law enforcement personnel's such as
carry heavy loads , running varying distances. By the recognition of the tasks that the police
officers are to do in their profession such as carrying heavy armors(Taylor, NAS, Peoples, GE &
Petersen,2016) apprehending the victims that resist arrest, the police officers test the physical
fitness of the employees as one of the job selection requirements, and that's where the police
officers physical fitness come in.
The procedure of evaluation of the police officers according to their physical fitness is
sometimes complicated when the range of the police institutions is considered and the different
types of tests to be applied. The police officer's physical fitness and wellness administer physical
tests to the police officers who are designed for the entry or career promotion needed to develop
a police officer. This work is specifically designed for the police officer physical fitness and
wellness because of the reliability and validity of the evaluations. The poor performance in the
occupational tasks because of the lack of physical fitness may lead to poor performance in
service delivery and also compromise the safety of the public
