Mai Moua Organic Chemistry 2201 Alcohol Dehydration Lab Introduction The dehydration reaction of alcohols to generate alkene proceeds by heating the alcohols in the presence of a strong acid, such as sulfuric or phosphoric acid, at high temperatures. The purpose of this lab experiment is to understand elimination reaction of alcohol dehydration by cyclohexane and using FTIR and NMR spectra to determine if the final product was successfully synthesized Procedure The experiment was conducted in Beyond Labz Virtual ChemLab. The starting material cyclohexanol, the solvent diethyl ether, and the reagent sulfuric acid was added into a flask. The flask was then placed on the stir plate and attached to the heater, condenser, and N2 gas so the reaction mixture can be heated. The mixture was then stirred and the progress was
