Orientation Leaders Orientation Week 2018 Purpose The purpose of Orientation Leaders is to assist new students with the transition to university life and to promote engagement in the university community during the summer months and during Orientation Week. Volunteers holding these positions act as role models and assist with the implementation of numerous events during the week, as well as mentoring new students during their transition into university life. Their dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm are critical for the success of the program. Time Commitment Spring Training – Throughout 2nd semester Summer Connect – July – August (2 Hours Weekly, only College Orientation Leaders) Pre-Week: Tuesday August 28 - Saturday, September 1, 2018 Orientation Week: Sunday, September 2 - Saturday, September 8, 2018 If a leader is unable to attend any training sessions, the position will be offered to another leader. ALL student leaders are required to be at the entirety of the Spring Training and Pre-Week sessions. Training & Skill Development Orientation Leaders will receive training in communication skills, inclusiveness and diversity, running events, risk management, seminar facilitation, and leadership. The skills developed by this experience are highly valued by prospective employers and many post-graduate education programs. Individuals who successfully complete the training and the week of programming will be eligible for a reference letter for applications to future opportunities. As well, students are encouraged to add this position into their Co-Curricular Record. Accountability Orientation Co-Chairs will act as the primary points of contact for Orientation Leaders. The Coordinator of Orientation & Transitions will provide additional guidance and support as needed. As well, you will receive support and guidance from your College Head, the Trent International Coordinator, the Campus Recreation Coordinator, and the Director of First Peoples House of Learning (depending on your position).
