Ans-1: Systems engineering and new product development should be divided into
multiple phases to emphasize the efforts being redirected to complete the product into a
particular area. The division of the phases is created so that there is logical flow
between the phases.
It also helps in efficient utilization of available resources and completion of project within
time.
Thus, the division of project into stages provides a logical continuum of tasks that need
to be completed with the least possible iterations.
10-2. How does the design work done in the technical feasibility stage of new product
development differ from that done in the later design stages?
Ans-2: The design work done in the technical feasibility stage is not in detail of how the
product will be manufactured or of the particular features of the product. Instead focuses
on determining whether the project can be completed within time and resources or not.
However, the work done in new product development stage will delve more into the
details and specific features of the product etc.
10-3. What are the principal reasons that a configuration control system is necessary?
Ans-3: configuration control system is needed because of the following reasons:
 Configuration control system drastically reduces the amount of rework that needs
to be done in a project.
 It is helpful in keeping the people informed about the changes made in the
project.
 Configuration control system allows all the teams involved in a project to voice
their opinion on the merits or problems inherent while making changes in the
project
