DQ1: Before starting this course, what were your thoughts about what human geography was all about? What are some concepts from the course notes, readings, and video that are particularly interesting and might make you think differently about human geography? DA1: Hey Everyone, The name human geography was very intriguing to me. when you think about geography, the first thing which comes to mind is the study of land, area, and the features of the earth. I can see that human geography has many more things to focus on other than just land. it speaks more about the place and how it is associated with the meaning people give to a place and based on the culture and history. another key factor that I have noticed in human geography is the scale. I am very excited to be learning and exploring this course this term. DQ2: Contemporary Globalization Globalization scholars have long noted that globalization seems to 'shrink' the world through things like transportation and communication technologies, making things like distance and borders less relevant than they used to be. In what ways is the contemporary world a borderless and small world. In what ways do things like borders, distance, geopolitics, etc. continue to matter? DA2: In today’s world people from all lifestyles including from the villagers who live in remote areas to the scholars, from the politicians to the academic achievers, everyone uses the term globalization regularly. Even though globalization is not a new concept, its influence has been unique and impacted people, global institutions, and governance. With its expansion, it has brought costs as well as benefits to various countries whether they take part in it or marginalized. In spite of using this term a lot, no one has come up with a definition for globalization which has been accepted worldwide. Yet, some scholars try to give definitions touching various aspects like political, cultural, economic, technological, etc, while others focus more on political or economic aspects. Many people believe that contemporary globalization has weakened the ties between nation-states and rendered borders meaningless. In the past, it used to be harder for people to travel around from one place to another. In the contemporary era, it has become much more convenient to travel or migrate from one country to another. Technology plays a very important role in this and it is now very easy to contact a person in any part of the world with just clicks of a few buttons. Globalization has definitely increased awareness of environmental issues like overpopulation and pollution. Considering some of the different forms of migration discussed in Knox et al. (2015) (and drawing on examples), what are some key push and pull factors of migration? What has Canada's response been historically to migration and what have been the effec
