1. Define the terms solute, solvent, and solution. In your definition describe a solution
found in your everyday life.
Solute- sugar; a substance in a solution that is dissolved in solvent.
Solvent- water; a liquid that solute is dissolved to form a solution.
Solution- food coloring; a liquid mixture that is distributed between the major
components.
2. Using the words Kool Aid, sugar, and water, explain how a solution can be:
a. Unsaturated- water; this means that there are no high calorie substances.
b. Saturated- sugar; this means that there are some high calorie substances.
c. Supersaturated- Kool Aid; this means that there is a lot of high calorie
substances.
3. Place the following compounds in order from most soluble to least at 50 degrees Celsius.
KCIO3, KNO3, Ce2(SO4)3, KCl, NaCl
4. Identify the following:
a. The salt whose solubility decreases as the temperature

b. The salt with the highest solubility at 30
