Welcome to BIO373, also known as Ecology. This semester you will learn the foundational concepts of Ecology – or how biological entities interact with their environment. The biological entities range from individuals, over populations and communities, to ecosystems. The environment encompasses the physical environment, and all other living organisms in this environment. Aside from the content, you will also develop transferable skills: working productively in a group setting, applying mathematical models, reading scientific literature and improving your scientific writing. Course Description
Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships among and between living organisms and their environment. The primary goal of the course is to provide you with an introduction to the major areas within the field of ecology. Fundamental concepts, central questions, and essential knowledge of each area will be emphasized. The course will cover both plants and animals, and both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. There are three lecture hours and one discussion hour per week for one semester.
Prerequisite: BIO325 or BIO325H with a grade of at least C-.
