General Information Lesson Title: Asking and Answering Questions Subject(s): Reading Comprehension Grade/Level/Setting: This lesson will take place in a self-contained regular education classroom. This class consist of: • 24 students total (14 boys and 10 girls) • 16 students are on-grade-level readers •3 students are two grades above reading level (2 are identified as gifted and talented) • 2 students are English learners at the intermediate level • 3 students who are identified as having special needs The student’s desks will be arranged in groups of 4 with students facing each other. The objective will be clearly written on the SMARTboard at the front of the classroom. Prerequisite Skills/Prior Knowledge: Students will need to be able to read. The students should have a basic understanding of asking questions, retelling a story and be able to make connections. Students need to be familiar with working in collaborative learning groups. Standards and Objectives State/National Academic Standard(s): 3.6B Comprehension skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts. The student uses metacognitive skills to both develop and deepen comprehension of increasingly complex texts. The student is expected to: (B) generate questions about text before, during, and after reading to deepen understanding and gain information;[ CITATION Tex19 \l 1033 ] Learning Objective(s): Given a short text, students will ask and answer 3 questions in order to comprehend the problem and solution of a text, with 100% accuracy.
