Conflict Resolution Strategies
Conflict is a common, inevitable occurrence in circumstances where multiple people are
involved. It can occur at home, in the workplace, among friends, and sometimes among strangers
(Anthem Media Group, 2016). Conflict is a "process in which one party perceives its interests
are being opposed or negatively affected by another party" (Hitt et al., 2018, p. 394). Today's
competition in work environments and individual differences steadily increase conflict among
employees (Başoğul & ÖZgür, 2016). The opposition or tension may arise from differing
opinions, values, beliefs, or personalities. Leaders must be aware of the conflict and have a plan
in place to manage and resolve issues that arise to make conflict a positive learning experience
for all involved; otherwise, long-standing negative repercussions may ensue (Anthem Media
Group, 2016)
