SUMMARIZING TASK 1: From memory: write out the following definitions Population A group of organisms of the same species inhabiting a particular location. Population density The number of individuals occupying a unit/area. Population range The geographical area in which a species can be found. Dispersion Pattern The arrangement of individuals in a habitat at a given time. Age structure A two bar graph representing data from a population of both males and females from all age groups, in a country or state. Survivorship curve A graphic representation of the number of individuals expected to survive in a particular age group. SUMMARIZING TASK 2: Compare and contrast the three populations above. Include predictions of how these populations will change over time. All the pyramids show a trend and it is possible that over time this trend could fluctuate or stay the same. Each population pyramid can be affected by a number of factors. Between each of the pyramids you will notice that the yellow population amount is close between A, B, and C. You will also notice that at the very top of each pyramid the population number gets very small. However, these pyramids have differences. A has a much smaller orange population compared to B and C. A’s population gets bigger as the colors move down. B’s population number remains mostly constant throughout each color except towards the top on the orange pollution decreases. SUMMARIZING TASK 3: Compare and contrast the three survivorship curves below. Type 1 represents a longer lifespan; this would be species such as humans and most primates. type 2 represents species such as birds who through their species have constant survival and mortality rate. However, type 3 represents individuals with a lower survival rate; this would be species such as certain plants. all three survivorship curves are constructed to show the relationship between the survival of different species. all 3 types start at the same population number and end at the maximum lifespan number of which is 100.
