Thesis Statement, Outline, and Annotated Bibliography: Impact of Telegraphy on the Society in
the Nineteenth Century
Thesis statement:
The essay will advance the argument that the development of the telegraph in the
nineteenth century positively impacted society by improving the standards of living of U.S
citizens, enhancing the effective operation of the railroad through efficient communication and
contributing to the establishment of big businesses.
Outline
The essay will focus on the topic entitled, “ The Impacts of Telegraphy on the Society in
the Nineteenth Century.” Telegraphy happens to be among the notable inventions during the
nineteenth century that had significant, positive impacts or influences on the society. As such,
this essay will focus on discussing how telegraphy impacted society during this historical period
(nineteenth century). In this discussion, the essay will advance the argument that the
development of the telegraph in the nineteenth century positively impacted society by improving
the standards of living of U.S citizens, enhancing the effective operation of the railroad through
efficient communication and contributing to the establishment of big businesses. The final essay
will be structured into five paragraphs. The first paragraph will focus on the introduction, which
will entail a brief description of the topic of research and the historical background of telegraphy.
This paragraph will conclude by stating the thesis statement of the argument advanced by the
essay. The second paragraph will focus on stating the first argument, which is the contribution of
telegraphy to the improvement of the living standards of societal members or U.S. citizens,
followed by the justification of this claim using findings from scholarly sources.
