A1. Discuss 3 factors that are influencing labor demand.
There are many factors influencing the labor demand for police officers. Some of those factors include;
crime, reducing overtime and current police force demographics.
Due to the overall increase in crime, the mayor has promised relief to the community by ramping up
patrol in certain high crime areas. It is necessary for the police department to hire new officers in order
to successfully and proactively address the situation.
The police department has been under scrutiny regarding the excessive overtime. This issue has been
publicly displayed to the community and been identified by the mayor as an area of major concern
which requires immediate attention.
The third factor influencing labor demand is the current demographics. Not only is the department
understaffed as it currently stands, it will be grossly understaffed due to attrition. The average age of the
workforce is 45. 24% of the current police force will become eligible to retire within the next 5 years.
Based on this potential for turnover, it is crucial to hire new officers.
A2. Discuss 3 factors that are influencing labor supply.
There are many factors influencing the labor supply for police officers. Some of those factors include;
local economy, climate and the lack of qualified candidates.
There are a multitude of factors deterring people from moving to and maintaining a residence here. Not
only is the cost of living one of the highest in the nation, but the state imposes high income and property
tax rates as well.
The local climate leaves a lot to be desired due to its insufferable winters and unbearable summers.
The final factor influencing labor supply is the lack of qualified candidates. One requirement for a Police
Officer I is either policing, security, or corrections experience. Applicants without experience are
required to have an associate’s degree in criminal justice. The tuition for local colleges or universities are
among the highest in the nation, this is causing a negative impact on our ability to recruit local qualified
applicants.
B1. Identify 3 recruitment objectives for your organization.
There are many recruitment objectives an organization can focus on in order to successfully fill
vacancies. We have identified three main objectives such as; generating a greater number of applicants
who are qualified, filling positions more quickly, and increasing referrals of qualified applicants. We
believe by aiming for these objectives it will allow us to reach out recruiting goals.
B2a. Determine the size of the applicant pool.
We are looking to hire 25 new officers. Based on this target goal, we have determined that we will need
an applicant pool of 36 people. This will allow us to meet our goal.

B2b. Recommend 2 types of individuals who should be targeted for recruitment.
Two target groups we have identified to focus our recruitment efforts on are military police and other
police department officers. This decision is based on recruitment data that has been analyzed.
B2b1. Justify your recommendation.
According to recruitment data, these two groups of applicants exhibit the highest yield ratios.
B2c. Describe 2 effective methods for reaching
each target group.
Recruitment of military police will be best accomplished by placing ads on electronic job posting sites
and through employee referrals. Posting our current opportunities electronically, will allow us to reach a
large audience and provide job details. We have implemented a robust employee referral program that
will allow our current officers to refer people they know and receive a financial reward for successful
hires.
Recruitment of active-duty officers will be best accomplished by placing newspaper ads and notification
at police association and union activities. Placing an ad in the newspaper is a low cost effective way to
reach a large audience and provide job details. By notifying potential applicants at police association and
union activities we will be able to target qualified candidates
