1. Existing Police Officers are making so much money in overtime payments that they are
making more money than the current mayor is.
2. Within the next 5 years 24% of the force will be eligible to retire, which will create even
more of a demand for police officers to fill vacant positions whether it be promoting within
the department or brand new police officers.
3. The mayor promised to lower crime rates so they need more officers to patrol the high crime
areas to be able to fulfill that promise.

1. The state has one of the highest cost of living rates so people are moving out to areas where
cost of living is lower.
2. Young people that are in the area are currently moving off to attend colleges in different
areas and not coming back.
3. The climate in the area is harsh with hot summers and freezing cold winters.

1. Attract younger employees so that we can close the gap on losing a vast majority of current
officers due to promotions or retirement.

1. Military Police already have a law enforcement background and due to being military, should
easily be able to pass any physical/mental exam as part of the interview process.
2. Military Police use different techniques and can bring more diversity and information to the
civilian workforce.

1. Using employees from other police departments is a great idea due to the fact they are
already familiar with laws, rules, and regulations.
2. Using police from a different department can also decrease training costs

1. Posting the open positions to external websites that are specifically targeted to current
active/reserve military members.
2. Using the employee referral program and having current officers spread the word about the
open positions to family and friends in the military.

2. Posting ads in newspapers in the area and surrounding areas to attract other viable
candidates who are already employed by a police department in a neighboring town.
