backgrounds, which can influence how they interpret and respond to dance.

For example, an American audience might be more likely to expect a dance-theatre

performance to be entertaining and accessible, while a European audience might be

more likely to expect a performance to be challenging and thought-provoking. This

difference in expectations could lead to different choices being made by the

choreographer and dancers, such as the type of movement used, the level of

abstraction, and the use of props or costumes.
