Project Background
When I was a child we lived in a small shack on the foot of a mountain in the province of San
Mateo, Rizal, in the Philippines surrounded by different kinds of fruits trees and bamboo. Our
house was made by bamboo, heath, empty sacks of rice and lined of some old iron sheet roof.
The foundation was not strong enough. We used to put extra wood to protect the house falling
on the ground. Lots of termites and weather so hot during summer and every rainy season there
were at least 3 leaks on our roof and we were afraid to blow our roof when there was a strong
typhoon and there was a flood in our area. We need to gather our valuable stuff to stay
somewhere safe.
We did not have electricity that time we used only kerosene lamps to have light every night and
we used wood to cook our simple food to be able to survive. We did not have water supplies
inside the house. We only had one area to sleep, to eat, to cook and to hang out. The bathroom
was outside and wasn’t very good. Our place was not safe to prevent things like burglary.
The days fly so fast I had opportunities to work abroad and have money to build our new house.
My parents and siblings agreed to do some improvement to our house. We thought hard and
put everything we needed on a list. We gathered all the documents and talked to all the people
that we needed to construct our dream home. The place to sleep, place to eat, place to cook,
bathroom, and a living room.
We have to build a dream home built ergonomically based on our need within the budget of
CAD $300,000 to include:
Landscaping (excavation, foundation, grading, driveway)
House Construction (frame, roof, siding)
Inside Work (floors, ceilings)
Modern bungalow house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living room and a
kitchen
Two-car garage
Deck/Patio
Infrastructure (electrical, plumbing, and mechanical)
Management activities
Interior and Exterior design
Project Purpose (Goal)
The purpose of this dream home project is to have significant quality life for my parents and for
my siblings to feel more comfortable and safe. A place to sleep, a place to cook, a place to eat,
a place to hang out during spare time (living room), a place where we can do laundry, a
spacious bathroom and to all kinds of dangers that surround our place.
