William Shakespeare is one of the most famous poet. He has made many love poems like “The

Phoenix and the Turtle”, “Venus and Adonis” and “A Lover’s Complaint.” These poems also

include rhymes. Rhymes are repeated ending sound of two words. Rhymes are also very

important in poems because it makes the poem more musical and fun. A pattern of sounds that

repeats at the end of a line or stanza is called rhyme scheme. Rhyme schemes can change

sentence by sentence or continue through the poem.

William Shakespeare was an English actor, playwright, poet, writer and dramatist. In 1564, he

was born on 26th of April in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom. In 1616, he died on 23rd of

April in Stratford-upon-Avon, his death was a mystery, but there is a theory that the cause of his

death was because of syphilis, binge drinking, or he was even murdered. He had 6 siblings Joan

Shakespeare, Edmund Shakespeare, Gilbert Shakespeare, Margaret Shakespeare, Anne

Shakespeare and Richard Shakespeare. At the age of 18, William Shakespeare got married to

Anne Hathaway, and had 3 children Hamnet Shakespeare, Judith Shakespeare and Susanna Hall.

His plays are translated in every language and are performed more than any other plays. The

poem “The Phoenix and the Turtle” is about the death of “ideal love Phoenix and Turtle.” It is

based on two birds that are in love with each other, and died together in a fire. Later on, many

other birds called for a funeral of the two loving birds. The theme of the poem is love. It was

“published in 1601.” This poem is allegorical poem. The rhyme scheme for “The Phoenix and

the Turtle” poem is “abba” for example “Let the bird of loudest lay, On the sole Arabian tree,

Herald sad and trumpet be, To whose sound chaste wings obey.”
