Course: MEC/IND 832 (Reliability & Decision Analysis)

S2021 Midterm Exam

June 11, 2021

Total Marks = 85 + 15 (for study sheets submitted separately) = 100 Marks

Instructions:

A total of 135 minutes will be provided for downloading the exam, completing the exam, and uploading

a single file containing

1. your legible handwritten response on lined paper showing all rough work, calculations, details,

sketches, interim steps, graphs, and finished text, and

2. this cover page of the exam (or handwritten reference to it) printed, completed and signed.

Exam responses will not be accepted for upload after 3:25 pm. The Midterm Exam is closed book (except

for formula / study sheets) and responses must not be typed nor printed from an electronic device. Any

graphs or plots must be drawn by hand onto plain paper, or the appropriate blank special paper such as

Weibull, Exponential, Normal or Lognormal paper downloaded from the internet.

Students will be expected to draw on learning from all sources throughout the course including the

text(s), readings, lectures, labs, assignments, assigned activities, class discussions, etc. Marks will be

based on the quality and depth of quantitative and qualitative analysis, the ability of students to

effectively apply tools and theory learned throughout the term, the ability of students to translate

analysis into logical (alternative) solutions and recommendations.

Internet access via cell phone, laptop, desktop, or any other electronic device for the purpose of

information gathering (eg, using search engines) is strictly forbidden. Reliability software tools and use

of tools for programming such as programmable calculators, Excel, etc. are also forbidden. Collaboration

or communication with anyone except the proctor during the exam period is prohibited
