She wrote the book "Of Blood And Fire" based on her recollections of the 1971 Bangladesh
Liberation War. This book describes Jahanara's daily life as well as the atrocities of the
Liberation War, including the loss of her husband and children. Rumi, her eldest son, joined the
liberation war. Due to his participation in the war, he was abducted by the Pakistani Army and
never returned to complete his engineering degree overseas. Sharif Imam, the spouse of
Jahanara, was a civil engineer. Sharif suffered a heart attack, but he was unable to activate the
life-saving medical equipment due to the war's blackout. Consequently, he perished away. In
December 1971, when Bangladesh achieved independence, Jahanara and his younger son had
both survived the conflict. She lived the remainder of her life with her son.
