Final Book Review “ THE CRUEL BIRTH OF BANGLADESH”
Archer K. Blood was a diplomat for the United States of America and his name was Archer K.
Blood. He was the last American Consul General to serve in Bangladesh, holding that position
from 1970 to 1971. His term lasted from 1970 until 1971. He had already served in Germany
and Afghanistan before being sent to Greece. Because of the political situation in Greece, he was
forced to leave the country and go to Dhaka. In 1962, he left Dhaka after serving in that city in a
prior capacity. Since he had a good time in Dhaka in the past, he thought it would be a good idea
to go back there for his next undertaking. He was completely oblivious to the fact that a storm
was brewing in East Pakistan. From the election in the 1970s to the liberation war in 1971, he
had seen it all. He had seen the brutality of the West Pakistanis, the sacrifices of the East
Pakistanis, as well as their determination and bravery, all of which contributed to the
establishment of Bangladesh. His biography, "The Cruel Birth of Bangladesh: Memoirs of an
American Diplomat," which recounts the people of Bangladesh's quest for independence and was
published in 2002 by The University Press Limited, is titled "The Cruel Birth of Bangladesh."
During the height of the crisis, he sent to the United States what would later be referred as as
"The Blood Telegram." After some time had passed, he was summoned back to Washington and
assigned to the human resources section of the State Department. After some time had passed,
Blood disclosed to the Washington Post that he had been disciplined as a result of his
disagreement. However, there was no way to get around it since the line between right from
wrong was far too clear. Archer was had to wait until the State Department declassified the
telegrams, letters, and other papers from this time period in late 1998 before he was allowed
access to them. Sir Archer detailed the events that he and the staff of the United States Mission in
Dhaka saw directly during the independence fight that took place in 1971.
