WRITING ASSIGNMENT #1 2
Every day, the vast majority of citizens in society decide to live their lives by doing the
right thing, by acting appropriately as citizens to themselves, and each other, and learning from
past ethical failures while demonstrating to future generations the importance of ethics. The dictates of society are what drive most ethical decisions and actions, or the “do the right thing” of a
civilized society. Many people would love to have all of the money stored in the bank vault, but
there are a great number of repercussion for taking what is not theirs. If the current dictates of society were different or non-existent, there is still reason for acting in an ethical manner. Lessons
learned over time has led to treating everyone fairly and justly while building strong communities, which are just a few reasons to continue to act ethically outside of the dictates of society.
