This will be designed as a high-end events space with a mixture of materials while also considering the aesthetic aspects and natural light. The design team will assess a mixture of timber and steel for the structural elements to give the extension a modernized and minimalistic look. The roof top space will be utilized effectively to get the maximum area possible for the extension while adhering to the planning requirements. The design will be focused on a fully glazed façade system to maximize the natural light into the extension with a careful placement of doorways and windows to use the remaining area of the rooftop productively. Scope of Work • Provide the conceptual design for the extension • Provide a detailed calculation considering the loading criteria according to the relevant codes. • Provide a detailed analysis and design of the extension for the reinforces concrete staircase • Detailed Drawings for the design outcomes • Overall outcome of the design with justification Conceptual Design Design Assumptions The existing structural system of columns and walls can resist the vertical and horizontal loads from the new extension. The concrete floor cannot accept additional loads, therefore, all the loads should be transferred to the existing structural system The lift core and the staircase core can support vertical forces, but not the lateral forces. Loading Criteria The structure should be able to withstand the wind loads as well as the live and permanent loads. For permeant loads, self-weight of the structure and the loads applied as finishes will be considered where necessary. Winds loads will be applied in accordance with the AS1720.2 and the live loads will be applied according to AS1720.1. The load combinations given in AS1720.0 will be considered and the structure will be designed for the most critical cases. 3 Structural System The structural system will consist of joists, bearing beams, columns and main beams which are connected to the existing structural system of the building. a) Vertical Loads Joists will carry the live loads which are in accordance with the AS1720.1 The load from the joists will be transferred to the bearing beams which will then transfer the loads to the columns. Columns will carry the loads to the main beams which are located in the lower floor of the extension. These beams are connected to column points of the main building where the loads get transferred to the existing structural system. b) Horizontal Loads The stability against lateral loads will be achieved by a bracing system. The bracing system will be designed to withstand the wind loads which are calculated in accordance to AS1720.2 A cross bracing system will be incorporated therefore the bracing members will be designed for tension according to the analysis results
