Perspectives of Complex Care in Adult Nursing
Introduction
This assignment will discuss the adult nurse's role in the complex care of a patient with a
chronic and debilitating physical and psychological disease. It will also incorporate the various
factors that affect the complex care provided to patients with comorbidities, such as individual
needs, family and caregiver perspectives, and an adult nurse's role in harmonising the care
(RCN, 2022). The subject is a patient being managed for type 2 diabetes. The maintenance of
this patient involves a complex multidisciplinary approach involving people from different cadres
of the medical field (Dyson et al., 2018). The adult nurse remains the central reference point in
managing patients with diabetes. According to the United Kingdom Office of National Statistics
(ONS) as cited by Penn et al (2018), type 2 diabetes contribute to 10% of all adult morbidities.
Type 2 diabetes condition harm patients and those close to them, especially family members
and their caregivers, regarding the cost and quality of life. The following section will describe the
signs and symptoms experienced by patients with type 2 diabetes.
The scope of this discussion will consider the role of an adult nurse in the community-
based care of a patient with type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic
disorder characterized by persistently elevated blood glucose levels (Breeze et al., 2020).
Various factors are associated with this disease, such as a sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking,
and alcoholism. Diabetes type 2 is a matter of concern with a sharp rise in prevalence in the UK,
with the prevalence doubling between 1995 and 2015, and currently stands at 4.7%of the total
UK population according to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence [NICE] (Bunn et
al., 2014). The management of Diabetes is complex and requires a multidisciplinary team
involving physicians, endocrinologists, adult nurses, dietitians, and dietitians. It also impacts
family members' and caregivers' daily lives and quality of life. My rationale for choosing this
conditions is two-fold. First, I have worked before in managing these diseases in adults.
